eHow alternatives - Where to write now that eHow closed
80eHow is closing: Where else can I write?
Like many I was stunned to receive a notification from eHow stating:
We wanted to let you know that Demand Studios is now the exclusive platform for writing new articles for eHow.com.
With the launch of these changes, we have updated our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Your continued use of eHow.com after May 8, 2010 will indicate your acceptance of the new terms of use and privacy policy.
For the most part I was angered that I will now have more writers to compete with at Demand Studios - a great platform, but one that has quickly become over run with poor title choices and a decreasing rate of pay.
So relax! This is the best thing that could have happened to you, using your same research and writing skills you can easily make much more money for your efforts at other publishing locations and well know you have a reason to look!

eHow Alternatives - HubPages.com
Hubpages is a great place to write, especially if you are used to the restrictions at eHow. This is an example of a HubPage, you can write to any format and topic you wish. An easy capsule system allows you to incorporate multi-media options like video and images. Using this same capsule system you can include products for sale via ebay and amazon.
A very active community will spur your writing along and assist you in learning some new tricks about making money via your writing.
You earn directly from your advertising partners, so you never have to be concerned with another party being involved in your money.
eHow Alternatives- InfoBarrels.com
Infobarrels is a relatively new site, not much different than Hubpages in design. Authors are rewarded via a similar impression sharing program with essentially the same group of advertising partners. They actuall offer a better sharing of impressions than Hubpages but dont have quite the same draw or intersite seo format. So HubPages is still the better earner overall. You can get a little boost b working your writing into their monthly contests for a more favorable impression share.
Infobarrels is a very good fomat for adsense earnings, which is surprising considering they dont look to be optimized properly and they dont work with a fancy optimization engine like yieldbuild (which hubpages uses). Not much of a format for product sales but is a still a viable alternative.
Keeping in mind that eHow just folded on you, spreading your writing around is a great idea.
So try out Infobarrels
eHow Alternatives- Examiner.com
The Examiner format is the closest in payout method to eHow. Its paid based on an impression scale and its rather favorable, if you know how to get your content viewed through keyword selection and promotion techniques you can do very well here.
Its also a good resume builder, as they are building a strong reputation.
They do have limited moderation and editorial review, the application process takes a little while. You will tend to write under one general topic, but with a little creativity one can work any topic into any other.
eHow Alternatives- Xomba.com

So how did writers find places to write before the internet? Its pretty easy, one either had an agent who did the legwork for them or they used the Writers Market, a huge list of publications that will buy your work, they explain very succintly the submission process and what each publication is looking for in this, which is in essence THE resource for being paid to write in the offline world.
I recently was browsing at Borders and the Writers Market Deluxe was priced at $49.99, you can do much better via the online sources below. The Deluxe edition includes access to the online database which is well worth the price difference as it is updated and easier to navigate.
There are specific Writers Markets published for different select fields, i.e. Childrens, Art, Technical, Science Fiction, Fantasy etc. The general Writers Market Deluxe Edition should cover most users needs.
Clever ways to write at multiple sites
It can be difficult to figure out topics that will pay on a consistent basis and it is sometimes hard to figure out which platform will work best for different types of writing.
I work out a simple method of using each of these sites to do the work for me and stagger my submissions in such a way to guarantee I gain upfront payment and residual income.
Im rather proud check it out!
How to maximize your income and guarantee payment for your writing
If your familiar with even the most basic of SEO methods you should have experience with the link wheel concept, How about a link wheel that pays you from every spoke?
The Ultimate Writers Link Wheel Tutorial
After about a month many are reporting they are having difficulty being accepted into Demand Studios, either an influx of new talent or a backlog of application reviewers is making it seem like one should really out the effort into finding a diverse collection of sites to write for...never gain should you out all your eggs in one basket.
If you are a an accomplished writer making a residual income and you are hoping to expand on your passive sources of income, consider skipping the keyword learning process and jumping right in with an investment into the premier Keyword research tool - Micro Niche Finder

I had heard Examiner didn't bring in much traffic. But you say it's valuable?
Very interesting, wasn't aware that EHow was closing. Good alternative suggestions. Yes, I keep visualizing wheels and linking chains.
oh wow cool
I got the link wheel HubPage and it's great. I have a wheel that's a bit bendy and this is just the repair manual that I need. Bookmarked it and printed it out. Thanks!
Thank you, sunforged, for this informative hub. Somehow I never could get used to eHow and never wrote there.
This good information on eHow, I was just wondering that as much as we dedicate our writing and effort on this writing articles, for a long term purpose it will be good for writers to have their own websites or blogs and supplement with these writing articles, why? we writers are contributing based on their terms of service which can change at any time without your knowledge. It is good to gain knowledge from writing platforms before starting your own blogs and there after use the writing platforms to back link and broadcast your blogs to the public.
I planned to get involved with ehow but never got round to it
Just popping by for a read and a bit of 60 dc loooove sharing. Have rated up! United we stand, divided we fall!:)
I had every intention of going to ehow to write articles and link them to hubpages. Im glad I didnt! Thanks:)
I could never join eHow because they only paid American residents, so this hasn't affected me. I remember being a bit confused when I read that eHow was owned by Demand Studios, which seemed to be doing a similar thing - so it makes sense it's all being consolidated.
Great article - I wrote quite a few articles at eHow and earn a bit each month. I think what occurred there was very deceitful - they had problems there for months with publishing and straight out lied about it. They obviously had this going on, people last drafts, they culled articles etc etc Now with the new demand studios you lose all your article rights. I ask my self why do I write? Do I want to just give up my story? Do I make enough on this to worry about it? Writing an article and freelance writing should have trust in it surely. I enjoy HubPages and while I have accounts at infobarrel, bukisa, redgage, Xoomba and Squidoo I haven't done much at the others. I also ahve a few blogs that I ahve and one that I am working on thinking of how to do the freelance ad sharing with other like minded artists my self.
Enjoyed your article from Hubpages/eHow perspective.
Thank you for your Ehow alternatives. I had just made over $10 there, and they shut me out. I had previously been rejected by DS, but they sent an invite to apply. I did and once again was rejected, along with some of my Ehow articles. Live and learn.
Cool. I have not been game enough to do much except hub and blog so far as it is so easy, but it is good to have a run down of alternatives thanks.
Great Hub Sun and very useful got to read this again later... Just bookmarked and rated it up thanks a lot!
This is very helpful as many have put most of their online writing efforts into Ehow. I have a few articles there and earn a decent amount each month. For now, they are going to continue to pay on the articles that writers already have published on the site.
I am now focusing on hubpages and infobarrel to build other streams of income.
Very interesting hub. I had heard ehow had closed it's doors. I like inforbarrel and xomba but will have to look into the others. Thanks so much for sharing.
very good information although I am concentrating here at HP and I am currently setting up a website, and marketing little by little I am learning, Thank you for this hub and your other hubs, Maita
eHow was the first online writing website that I tried. However it became frustrating early on because perfectly legitimate articles were deleted because they either didn't adhere to the how-to format or because they seemed overly promotional of another product or website. That, combined with a shady 'we-can-keep-your-articles-even-if-you're-banned' contract makes them a poor choice for writers (in my opinion). This new change of ownership just re-affirms that. After my issue with them, HubPages welcomed me with open arms, so they are my number one choice.
I never bothered to write for eHow the other way because I like the upfront payment through Demand Studios. But, you are right, the quality of the titles has gone down (or they already have published everything good they can think of). Ironically, it looks like they might be doing an IPO later this year which means that they're doing something right.
Great information! I had just started writing for eHow right before I got the email. Of course, I had been turned down by Demand Studios....funny, I am a freelance writer full time but apparently I wasn't worthy of them? lol Great hub!
very informative! i tried applying for the ehow writer's compensation program but couldn't make it through, which is why I searched for other alternatives and I found this hub. great one! lots of useful resources indeed. thanks again!
I just deleted all my articles and account at eHow..I feel so used...
this is good info...i want to use my ehow articles again...somehow...
I don't really like Demand Studios. The title choices don't always make sense, their titles are not appropriately sorted, so that car article titles are often found in the cooking section, and for the amount of money you make per article, they are a real hassle. Yes, I have sold articles to them, but probably won't again. And no, you won't find my name in their ranks, since I use a pen name here. I have made more money from my Hubpages (different account) than from Demand Studios.
Thanks for the suggestions and links to other sources of writing work!
Useful hub thanks
I am a little upset that ehow is closed. I was just getting started with what i thought was an incredible site. :(
Some great ideas for ehow alternatives. For now I am going to concentrate on HubPages and see how I can do!
How did I not know that ehow closed? Ugh.
Thanks for very useful and practical information.
Thanks for the info pal.
I was hired by Examiner as a writer. On the plus side, you do submit a resume and writing samples. There is some feedback and there is editorial control. However, I never earned anything from Examiner, although one day I had an article that was the most popular article on the site with thousands of views. This should give you an idea how poorly Examiner pays. I also felt like I invested a very large amount of time meeting their requirements for photos, sizing, style etc. In my experience, I was Examiner's slave. I worked for free and never earned any money. I ultimately deleted all of my content, including that really popular article after several months without earning a cent.
