Top Ten Affiliate Networks to use with Hubpages
77Get Paid for Writing: Using Affiliate Networks
If you are already a HubPages author or a website administrator you should be well aware of affiliate networks and the revenue options they offer to you.
If at any point you have issues with vocabulary, jump over to the Internet Marketing Lexicon. Examples of affiliate networks that you are probably already aware of or part of, are Google's adsense, eBay Partner Network and the Amazon Affiliate network.
Traditionally, affiliate networks act as an intermediary between a content producer or site administrator and the online component of a Business, these businesses offer a commission to partners who can effectively send traffic/visitors to purchase items and services.
In addition to sales based commissions, some networks work in the CPA model - Cost Per Action, these networks can pay based on completion of a survey or online form, this action would be a "lead", some advertisers pay in excess of $20.00 simply for an email or phone number of an interested pre-qualified visitor.
Why would I want to be a member of any other affiliate programs ? isnt Adsense, eBay and Amazon enough?
These very common networks are a bit of a double edged sword. As they are very successful networks with very well known brands, your commission and personal relationship is truly a shadow of what most affiliates enjoy.
- AdSense - Great program, but you cant rely on only one network AND customer service is non-existent. Make 10,000/month with them and you might be able to get some CS..Might
- Amazon - People trust Amazon, but their cookie life and commission rates are downright insulting, whenever possible find an alternative merchant for products to promote, throw amazon in as a back-up. Most merchants offer 10-40% commissions and 30 day cookies, compare that to Amazon..yuck!
- eBay - an increasingly trusted site to buy from, an increasingly non-trustworthy site to promote for - phase out eBay as much as possible. The new Quality Click Pricing seems to be an ok model, but the lack of transparency and a constant reliable income metric is distressing.
PepperJam Network
The PepperJam Network is my top suggestion for new affiliates. They are a very respectable network that has the most up to date user interface and stats management of any of my listed partner sites.
Unique:
PJ offers a $10 per post commission for reviews about their services from accepted blogs. Has to be from a domain you own.
Blogger Incentive Program - Bloggers are the lifeblood of the PJN Publisher Referral program and tend to be our biggest supporters and closet friends. As a result, we thought we'd create a sort of "Pay Per Post" incentive program where any PJN publisher / blogger will receive $10 for each post you make (up to 5 per month) that promotes Pepperjam Network or any Pepperjam Network tool.

Big Hitter:
PepperJam Network is the current home of the eBay Partner program, after eBay left CJ and started their own affiliate network they also began a partnership with PepperJam!
Some Top Partner Brands:
- Crutchfield
- eBay
- Mattel
PepperJam offers very strong affiliate support, I know my affiliate manager by his first name and can contact him via chat anytime I need to. They have a very transparent model for both merchants and advertisers.
Minimum Payout:
Only $25.00!
Payment Methods:
Check or Direct Deposit
ShareASale
ShareASale has to be my favorite affiliate network. They pay perfectly on time every month, the few questions Ive ever had, were answered instantly by a very helpful support staff. They dont have the most beautiful of user interfaces, but the stats work and all my reports show perfect synchronicity between my independent CTR% and what they report!
Sign Up to ShareASale.com
Unique Option: ShareaSale has the option of seeing offers separated by upcoming holidays and specials events, by selecting any of the holiday links you can see all promotions available from their over 2,000 partners. This is an incredibly easy way to stay up to date with ideas for upcoming trends and holidays. By using their integrated datafeeds and store builders one can quickly build trend and niche sites.
Minimum Payout: $50.00
Payment Methods: Check or Direct Deposit
MaxBounty - No Longer Allowed On HubPages
MaxBounty is only a CPA network. They offer some high commissions on some very attractive and seasonal promotions. If you are writing in the tech fields or about popular video games or trendy movies, this network has very relevant offers.
Although they offer products if you look around hard enough, most of these offers are for surveys, free trials and services like free credit reports. Many times the commission paid to you is many times the initial cost to the visitor as the partnered business is paying for the lead with the hope of further business from your visitor.
Sign Up for MaxBounty
Unique Option:
Currently, MaxBounty is running a $1000 performance bonus that is eligible only to new publishers. With action payouts at the $20-$50 range the performance requirements are not impossible to reach.
Top Partner Sites:
- Entertainment Books
- Nielsen Ratings
- FlyCell
- Bidz
Payment Minimum: $50.00
Payment Types: Check, Direct Deposit and PayPal

ClickBank - No Longer Allowed on HubPages
Be careful with Clickbank
Why? Using ClickBank products in your sites, twitter and social networks is a quick way to scare away visitors, ClickBank traffic should be highly prequalified, ebooks and downloads are a very popular market...but with a select user base. Trying to target ebooks at the wrong crowd will get you quickly seen as and disregarded as a spammer.
Ethically, I find it quite difficult to find products worth promoting in Clickbank, but there are a few gems, so get to wading!
Being Accepted into an Affiliate network
Managing Affiliates takes resources, this is a competitive field and not everyone will be accepted to every network
- Each Network uses different questions and criteria, each merchant within each network has their own additional criteria
- Using Hubpages as your website is probably not going to fly with most merchants, they want partners who have full control of their webspaces
- But, you can still use your affiliate links at your Hubpage locations
- Either use a clean established website with traffic or use NO WEBSITE at all
- Many affiliate networks will actually do a phone interview with you, use this time to shine, point out that you market primarily via PPC, meaning you dont use your own sites, you just drive traffic through media buying - This almost always works
- There are lots of Networks! If you dont get accepted to one, just move on to the next one.

konterra often direct people away from your site, and payment is low ........
Thanks sunforged, a definite bookmark for me too!
Great Hub! This is very useful information to all of new internet marketers.
Helpful and much needed info! I'll definitely look in to some of these. Thank you!
Really useful hub - thank you! I have signed up with affiliate networks in the past and have always had to provide website details. Do you think a link to a hubpages account (profile) would be sufficient?
Has anyone signed up for skimlinks? Looking at it, it looks like you don't sign up with the networks, just with skimlinks. But it looks like they handle Amazon among others, and it might be a way New York and North Carolina residents might get around the Amazon ban. Any real experience?
Sunforged, can we used skimlinks on hubpages? Just heard about them.
I read that, and have already done straight links from some of my hubs, but skimlinks doesn't work like that. You add code to the page, and they add the links or redirect links? Not exactly sure how it works yet.
I know that they just entered into an agreement with Squidoo. Maybe something that Hubpages the site would look at?
Definately a bookmark, thank you so much for the info. I will try these and see how I do. I don't show much money on hubpages. Would love to find a way to make more. I am new to the computer writing and making money. Thank you so much......
Thanks for the great information. There are some affiliate sites that I haven't heard of there. I will check them out and use your links. - Carol
Why do you say be careful with clickbank? Can you expound on this?
great hub about affiliates!
And with respect to Squidoo. As far as I understood how Skimlinks works in Squidoo, the revenue is not directly attributable to a single lens. They make a pool with skimlinks revenue and after that share it with all the lenses as a bonus.
Great hub. Haven't heard of some of these sites, will check them out.
I have been frustrated with amazon myself. I will definetly be giving these other affiliate programs a shot. Keep Hubbin.
Great Hub,I will definitely check back.
Payment on Kontera is non-existent if you make less than $5 a month - they just keep it for themselves, it is clause 4.2 - read it and weep ! Or better still just avoid Kontera.
Book Marked !!! This is Awesome stuff,.. Can't wait to go and check them out,..Guess I wont get no work done tonight,..LOL. Thanks for sharing !!!
thanks for this information, very informative, I dont know how to do backlinking yet,
Another legendary collection of nice ones Josh. I don't spend enough time 'stalking you' lol. Or I would have realised what your avatar was *ashamed sigh* so now I do and may I be last to say; "Congratulations and Oh Wow.. Great Stuff Josh!" So 2010 really is going to be an excellent year! All the best for you and your lovelies. Thanks for sharing your growth my friend. Take care.
Thanks for the info,
Now that I wrote about 10 hubs and they are very interesting I'll need to increase my traffic.
Asides Google and Amazon which i use always, i am affiliated with CB, CJ, Linkshare, and some few others which i've never used really. I seem not to be lucky with the others - no sales ever. I stopped promoting them, but know i really need to. Any tips or hubs on how to make them work for me SF?
Great informative hub.
I find your hubs are very useful, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Very interesting and helpful hub. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for this help. I've also read another helpful article of yours -- the one about shetoldme.com. Have you heard about affiliatebot? I've been a member for months, but haven't reached the minimum payout. Thanks again.
Definitely going to dig deeper. Thanks for the leads.
Thanks for the quality information you written in your hub. I never knew about Pepperjam until i read your hub. Thanks :)
I believe clickbank used to be a good place to buy things but now it is flooded with junks and craps by marketers to make money. Well, as you said not all are bad, there are really gems in them.
Thanks for showing me to this hub. You have great information for making money online. I appreciate your online writings and shared information with online marketing. You are a real help to us all.
Thank you very much for information.
great hub - i'm learning loads here thanks for the info.
Bookmarked and Thank you! I knew there were other alternative methods of making money and you are the key to our success. :)
I am delighted. this is oustanding.
Sweet! Writing is certainly work, might as well be paid.
excellent info - thanx for sharing the good stuff.
This is a really good hub! I came across a couple of affiliate networks I didn't know about; Pepperjam in particular looks promising.
I have one small question. Can I use maxbounty in my hubs? It this allowed?
Thanks, I was considering to use Kontera, but will stay away from then and use Chitika instead. I see their ads are becoming more and more popular also on all kinds of platforms.
Great Hub!
Kontera has disappointed me.
ClickBank is good - IF you can find some good products. There are some fantastic things on there if you can find them!
Software affiliate schemes (RegNow, Avangate) can be very lucrative, but again it's trying to find decent products that is the problem.
Excellent information you have unearthed. Thank you! On my long list of learning - you shortened the time...thank you!
Question - I am new here, but I do a lot of marketing elsewhere by way of the web. Am I basically restricted to using text links? I can't seem to figure out a way to get a banner from MaxBounty or ClickBank into the body of the text.
Ok, thanks for the reply - I will give it a go today.
Applying as an affiliate is really good idea to earn extra money. If you will ask me, amazon is great because it helps me to earn.
Nice and informative hub to read knowing the ups and downs of some major affiliate networks. thanks for the good information shared.
I came accross pepperjam network and I find their site a confusing one. But thanks for some other affiliate networks you've shared, they are very useful.
This is great. I am wondering if my adding clickbanks to my modules has maybe had some of my hubs flagged for unrelated content? Not sure but the hubs that I used with clickbanks seem to have gotten flagged
very good and informative hub. thank you
