The Ultimate Writers link wheel tutorial earning from your backlinks : Do linkwheels work in 2011?
69The ultimate writers link wheel tutorial
I'm going to break a cardinal rule and just write one massive post here. Its not going to have many explanations. You will read and probably have read a lot of explanations and tutorials on how to get your content to top positions in Google search result. You have heard about the importance of keyword selection a thousand times over. But have you seen or done the rather arduous process of actually developing your content systematically? So how about the actual work it takes, Would a process help you?
If you don't have time on your hands I suggest you turn back now.
Still here? roll up your sleeves, grab some coffee and a scratch pad and get ready.
Ok, one short explanation – You are going to rank and earn better if you have your content spread across a variety of domains. You are far more likely to get those top results and related earnings with a horizontal keyword monopoly at as many sites as possible all catching traffic and funneling authority towards your one main site whatever you choose that to be.
Who this tutorial is intended for:
Writers, webmasters and content writers with enough experience and motivation to follow through all the way through the process so they can see and feel the true power of such a method.
Your initial topic selection will be
far easier if you have some existing content. Because we want to use
your existing analytics and adsense statistics data to pick your keywords
and URLs to develop your ultimate writers link wheel.
This is important as you will actually be able to see the change that results from your efforts. This will encourage and prove the efficacy of these type of methods.
I'm going to assume you understand at least the basics of finding competitive keyword terms
For an arbitrary reason we are going to works in a series of seven, hey its lucky right!
Now unlike most link wheel systems every source but one will be a potential earner for you so none of your written content will be for “free”
Required resources:
Existing content portfolio with trackable analytics and adsense information
A Word Processing program open-office does the job well
Accounts at the following sources
A spreadsheet program to keep track of all your links – once again open-office should suffice
(this is optional if your not comfortable with spreadsheets don't add more learning or frustration at this point, notepad will work for you this time)
You most likely don't have accounts at all these places yet and I'm not going to explain the differences or plusses between them at this point, just know they are at different places on the net and are for the most part respected.

ROBOFORM PRO PASSWORD MANAGER & FORM FILLER
Current Bid: $24.95

An optional but suggested ability to have at this time is some sort of AutoFill program. If you are already making money online you know the humdrum of account creation, roboform is the leading candidate, but it is a premium product and does cost around $35 from the manafacturer, you can usually find the product on eBay in the 20 something range,, a good free alternative is the lastpass plug-in for Firefox. These programs essentially just allow you to fill in form information once and than click a button to fill all subsequent forms. But, the remember form history built in feature of Firefox does an adequate job too.
Step 1. Identify your best potential content
Open up your adsense account and go to your advance report options. Select a minimum of a 3 month period for the date range and show channel data select all and group by channel.
Toggle the form so it displays your earnings from high to low. Now you know what your top earners are, make a note of your top earners or select your content with the highest ecPm..as theoretically the boost you get in traffic can blow your current earners out of the water.
Now open up your analytics account and individually examine each of those site urls, what keywords are bringing in your content, if you have thousands pick your top 15 or so, we want to whittle these down to 7.
Step 2. Examine your Search Engine Result Placement
Examine your Search Engine Result Placement for these terms one by one by entering them into Google (make sure you are signed out of all Google accounts when you do this) or use scroogle.org as an easy alternative.
You should have SEO for Firefox or SEO quake installed already. If not take a break and do some research on why and how.
See what terms your appearing for that can be boosted to top positions from your list, whittle it down to your best 7-10 options.
Step 3 - Get writing!
You have your topic keywords and since you already wrote one article you should have some knowledge about the topic.
Time to write your content!
7 sites, 7 articles, using the terms write 7 unique articles as your topics, ideally all should be over 500 words, but if your blocked, two of them can be in the 300 word range and one can be in the 200 word range. Spell check them within the word processing program.
Your search terms you selected earlier should be used in all your Titles, which will later be your URLs also.
Step 4 Submit your content
Get all your accounts at once, most of these sites will require an email confirmation so It is fastest to do them all in bulk, this is where your auto-fill features could come in handy.
You might ask, Do my Profile names matter for each site? No, not really..just pick something that feels genuine, don't do “cutesy” or “spammy”
ex)
- MichaelDrexler – Pseudonym Good
- GolfingwithMike – Fine if you have a permanent niche
- MikeyWikey – Avoid
Having these resources to publish at is a long term investment, but most allow for multiple accounts so you can always have different names should you desire. Feel free to use different names at each site so its not so obvious that your “your own authority/reference) but it isn't required.
set up an account – make sure to go to affiliate settings and enter in your adsense, analytics and any other affiliate accounts you may already have that is offered at hubpages.
This is the first site as it is a great resource to apply for these programs through
Fill out your account information, make sure to add your paypal email address
Sign up for an account make sure to add your adsense code and chitika code
(get chitika)
get an account and be sure to add your paypal email
You can set this up right through your Google account. This is slightly more involved than the others – but not as much as you would think. Use your keywords as the blogspot site name, just use the default theme at this point..move on
set up an account, add your adsense and chitika ids
set up the account use your profile URL wisely, this one isn't a direct earner but the returns both SEO wise and possible syndication-wise are worth the small investment
Step 4. Arrange your link wheel
Arranging your link wheel. Manually arrange a couple of pieces of paper or use a mindmap software or even ms paint to quickly sketch out your link diagram.
We will use your blogspot and hub or infobarrel as your 2 biggest receivers of juice.
Have each article link out to 2 other articles, once to blogspot (feel free to pick another site as your center spoke) and once to another article in your wheel.
Make sure all links are one-way
Use the diagram to make sense of this.
(This is also where your spreadsheet would come in, have a list of URL's and show who links to who, plus you can use it as you go through further backlink campaigns.
If you wrote a few shorter articles, the shortest goes to shetoldme. The 300-500 can be your main blog post ideally you want at least 3 posted on the blog but you have a little time to write those later or even use the new amazon functionality to quickly build a couple of related product reviews that can fill a blog quick.
One of the shorted, but well edited should go to eZines also.
Thoughts:
Factoidz, InfoBarrel and eZine are all human reviewed (at least at first)..nowhere in this tutorial did I suggest trying to use crap content. This is the ultimate link wheel tutorial for writers! That means make sure your work is up to snuff. Although your hubpages account isn't directly human reviewed it is peer reviewed, so don't submit anything that will draw disdain from the community.
Tiny revenue Bonus option:
InfoBarrels runs a contest each month, see if you can tweak your content to relate, this month (Feb 2010) you can impression bonuses for Olympics based content or any Holiday infobarrel.
Factoidz works on an impression scale, they have calls for topics that will receive a higher earning per 1000 impression see if you can tweak to fit that content as well.
Congratulations, Support and the Future
Step 5
Congratulations you have actually done a lot of work already. i never mentioned anything about formatting and capsules and the basic window dressing aspects. Feel free to go back through your Hubpages ,Squidoo and Blogspot submissions to tweak and prettify and optimize your adsense layouts. They are published, live, interlinked and set to be indexed now you can fret the details.
Step 6
Start supporting your backlink articles with more backlinks. Social bookmark the hell out of every single link you made. This is another example of why multiple names at multiple domains is a good idea. You can sit there in one social bookmark account and just go through all 8 of your initial sites in a row, you wont look like a self promoter at all! For long term results look for “dofollow” sites but even the “nofollow” sites can help you get quickly indexed.
Step 7
Reward yourself by doing the whole process all over again with a new keyword set. You can also continue to develop this same wheel using all the free hosted sites out there on the web ...just off the top of my head, weebly.com, wordpress.com,blog.com, and similar ilk.
Advanced Options:
After you start seeing results and you can gauge what terms worked best for you, especially after developing a couple of these wheels with different terms, you can buy your own hosting and start using wordpress blogs with keyword rich as your middle spoke. This opens up so many automation options for you to assist in your eventual internet domination!
sorry had to throw some power terms in there
Hows this for a tag line – dominate the net with hours of hard work! would that sell my upcoming ultimate writers link wheel system , lol

Thank you very, very much for such a lot of information and help.
Wow is all I can say...I think I'll check back in about 6 months...I just got the hang of backlinks this week! :>
Thank you for the knowledge release, I will have to come back a couple of times to absorb what you have written, and decide whether it will be of any benefit for me, for (if you have seen my profile)I am not really a 'commercial' writer.... but I am thinking of developing a commercial writing persona or seven, because my short time here on the hub has persuaded me that I like writing and (even in my limited niche) people seem to like reading me!
So thanks again for being an 'elder brother' here on the hub, I'll let you know how it goes in a few months!
John
Nice one, I am actually dreading the task of tweaking my link wheel. I have almost 50 hubs, accounts at shetoldme, yousaytoo, blogspot, digg,AC,CC,Article base...on and on and on. I have done some work initially but until I had all of them set up and ready for linking I just linked where ever I could. The point about setting all up at once and then drawing a diagram would have saved me tons of tweaking now. Anyway great hub and I will be checking back for info as I spend days (rather than hours)tweaking my stuff.
Bookmarked for later use and rated up. Thanks for sharing. Amber
Thank you, thank you, thank you....great information here. Bookmarked so that I can find it while I put it into action. Thank you!
This is a piece of anthology.
I was thinking lately about different linking strategies, but most of them where of the (multi-level) "funnel" or "tree" types... But reading your hub, I immediately recognized the power of your link wheel strategy! No link juice is lost! And it is an amazingly simple idea!
Thanks Sunforged for sharing your SEM/SEO strategies with the HP community.
Excellent Hub! I'm doing this already but I'm not nearly as organized as you. I see room for me to inprove from this article. Thanks Bunches! Bookmarked and up-rated.
I am going to bookmark this hub, it has lots of information that I will find useful in future.
For now I am happy that I read it as it has made me realise I should be signed up for Chikita and did not think about it until I read this.
If you've been on Hubpages awhile, you always come back to Sunforged! I could not on my best day, do all this my friend! But because of your advice, and support, I have seen a slow but steady increase in my earnings. I will come back here for a reread in the future mon frere, well done.
Ben
I came across the link wheel idea a couple of months ago and tried it by using my Hubs to link to each other and back to my website - I now realise that Hubs linking to each other do not a wheel make! Great Hub, need to do some work now.
Worthy information on linkwheels. Thanks for sharing!
Great hub. I bookmarked this as I'm going to have to refer to it a few times to get things going.
Your hub is a great explanation of the link wheel and how it should work. This will be a big help for me, as a beginner!
Thanks for all this helpful and insightful information!
I think I could be in love with this wheel. As I am going through learning about backlinks I keep having this dream I am in one big circle and cant get back to where the circle began. I have a feeling this wheel will put an end to this never ending dream while at the same time keep me on track! Thanks for sharing this essential tool.
Sunforged, the concept of the wheel is fantastic. But no way will I do all that you have suggested, too much time. I believe, however, that following your advice would bring in a ton of revenue. Just the few measly little links I've been working on have really made a difference here on HP. Thanks for the tips!
Another powerful hubs Sun Thanks a lot with this...
I'll skip most of the blathering, but for the keyword effect, your backlinks lnkwheel info for keyword seo optimazation to help others make money online with hubpages and squidoo and blogspot is very helpful.
now then. you should checkout bubbl.us for creating link diagrams. I think it would be a good recommendation for beginners to help them get organized if they aren't using a spreadsheet for links. it's a great visual tool for motivation to get the job done.

I feel quite overwhelmed.
Hi, very good post and suggestion I have some question about link wheel. If some of blog or webiste is droped any reason such as baned. The link wheel are broken What we can do in this case?
Learning this stuff is like emptying the ocean with a tea cup. But here I am with my cup nd my determination. We'll see how far I actully get. Thanks!
Fantastic post - great step by step. Since I'm a noob, I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. What is a good example of the actual text and link language that goes from one outer page to another. I can't really find anything about the language or suggested variations for the different pages.
Thanks,
Great advice your hubs have been very helpful in my intenet marketing endeavours
Thank you for this hub - I have got as far as printing it off to refer to - I will try and be systematic with this and use it with my next Hub. Thanks again, Alison
Hi again, hope it was ok to link to this hub from mine - also, in the create accounts at the following sources - did you mean infobarrel.com not infobarrels.com? Thank you.
I like it sunforged. will give it a whirl. I have decided to do some work with social network sites using the share button on huib pages. I think that will compliment the introduction to the link wheel quite nicely.
Rated up and bookmarked.
Bookmarked and voted up. Very very good content, thanks a lot!
Excellent! Excellent! This is a fist to forehead discovery. Thanks.
Good stuff sunforged, I believe I will give it a try
Great information, had to book mark it though to come back to later, thanks Sunforged :)
Great information about link wheels. Thank you!
I have to start building these. I've been putting it off for soo long
I think it would be a good recommendation for beginners to help them get organized if they aren't using a spreadsheet for links
Thanks for sharing!!!
Bookmarking this. It would seem that I have much work to do! Thanks!
I'm so going to bookmark this hub, and now going to get back to more research and writing. Excellent tips.
Thanks Sunforge,
It is a pleasure to find so much genuine and helpful information in one place. I have been reading your other SEO/Internet savy hubs and I have found them all helpful. Especially as I am a complete newbie to all of this. The ideas should save me a lot of time in generating traffic. I will get back to you and let you know how I get on.
Once again - Thank You.
Fantastic information! I have this bookmarked and will refer back to it often. Thank you!
Great article!! Thank you for the information.
sunforged-- I finally "get it" ha ha! (sorry a bit giddy) I keep reading your hubs, and I fianlly "get this" idea... took me a while... off to write!
Great hub! Additionally, I would break the wheel on several places and randomly link between blogs and put several wikipedia, techcrunch, gizmodo links etc. for making it more natural.
Really useful info. Fantastic hub.Vote Up. bookmarked
Excellent !!! Love it..
Thanks for an up and useful and excellent hub. Bookmarked.
Very useful article, I'm going to start implementing this idea right away. It's always great when you can find a "How to..." article with specifics...
I have actually followed some of your links, but could not really see how you made the link wheel. Maybe you have made it more complicated that it seemed. Just my opinion that I think you'd like to know.
However, I have seen Kathryn Vercillo doing it very well. I am able to follow her link from one place to another and back to the central point.
Hi, you have a great hub here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you! Thank you for your info.
Thanks for a great article. I'm new to building link wheels but will start to get started on this tomorrow.
Mike
Thank you. I will give it a go. Looking at my adsense account I am going to have to sort that first. Difficult to get any clarity out of it.
SF, do you think this is still a valid strategy post-Panda? I've heard awful things about Factoidz and I thought Shetoldme had lost credibility a long time ago.
Maybe time to update to include better sites instead of those two?
Quite clear and procedural--a lot for me to work on.
It's not clear to me what has been updated and what hasn't. The title is for 2011; the comments were for 2010. The final paragraph was going to self-destruct within hours, but maybe you never actually got back to filling out the formatting.
Thank you SunForged. Hub bookmarked. I need to read it again and again. God bless.
Totally fantastic hub! Its like engaging in a full time course.Bookmarked for future reference. Thanks
The value of this hub can not be overstated. I'm going to get started on this right now. Thanks!
Whoa. Some business going on here huh. Looks like something I could be very interested in but don't know if I have the inner strength to pull it through. Will definitely take a closer look though.
Thanks for taking your time in writing it.
I'm going to bookmark this hub so I can study it again--lots of good info.
Excellent I like it
@Sunforged, aka, The Man.
Lots of changes coming down via the Google Ban-Hammer, lol. I make my living as a marketing professional, and use writing as an extracurricular outlet.
I never intended to make money, but some of my articles are already dominating (crazy). So it's actually motivated me to spend a little more time.
Do you plan on revising this article to point to some non Google-hated sites for wheel architecture?
Hi SF, a nice reminder to spread your content across several sites (including your own sites) to ensure that you don't have too many eggs in any one basket, whilst heavily benefiting from the links provided.
I have been doing this now for a little while and for some of my keyword terms I have 4 or 5 listings on the first page of the SERPS - world search engine domination is planned in my niches for 2012.. lol
In actual fact your link wheel method works just fine, but this is what I suggest. Don't put your writing on other sites. You can actually do it all on hubpages, or all on your website. Firstly, double the size of the wheel itself. Hubpages is the easiest place to really make a difference. Build your link wheel, and the centre article provides you in the stats with what is working best. You can use the 'potential' stat to know which should be in the middle. Now each time you link from the 'rim' articles use these keywords. By doing this you are able to dominate large areas: write a minimum of 500 words. Then through the karma system you will find that all of these articles are linked to and so boost them all. You haven't called down wrath of google-hammer either. Interlinking isn't my idea though, but it does work brilliantly. The ethos and management system I use is at keyword academy: https://www.keywordstrategy.org/1031/dont-chase-th (shameless affiliate plug, but it does work! and completely black hat)
-sorry!!!white hat, should have said white hat! always getting my hats mixed up...ask my wife!
Freudian slip, Andrew? lol.

I think the best google item wonder wheel most probably could help in choosing the right keyword or something to write for a certain topics.Your diagram almost the same with wonder wheel idea!Great posting and advice!
