The Pescatarian Diet : We Live the Longest
What is a Pescatarian?
Pescatarian: A vegetarian diet + Seafood.
My pescatarian Diet is one that closely mirrors the diet of the healthiest people in the world. Since the 1960's scientists have studied the diets and health of most of the major developed countries and found that the people of Crete had the lowest frequency of cancer and heart disease and where also overall the longest living people in the world.
The Cretan Diet:
At its most basic, the Cretan Diet consists of lots of olive oil, lots of breads, grains and pulses and plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. Dairy products, fish and eggs are also common but are consumed at a much lower frequency. A healthy glass of red wine with every meal is also recommended.
If one wanted to be very correct in their categorization of this diet, ovo-lacto-pescatarian would be its designation.
The Olive Oil diet
One would expect that an easy wholesome diet that is connected to the healthiest people in the world would be far more common.
It is. The popularity of the Mediterranean diet and to a lesser degree "the olive oil diet" has been well popularized over recent years. The terms of Cretan diet and Pescatarian are far less known but are no less apt in their usage.
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, diminishes the bodies levels of LDL and raises production of HDL.
The Cretan diet a connection to the land
The cretan diet is a very simple and old culinary tradition, the diet reflects what is available from the earth and his rich in fresh ingredients.
